You have probably come across the term ‘coach’ most often in relation to sports coaching and indeed there are many similarities between this and career coaching, however there are also some differences worth pointing out too.
One similarity is that no matter how skilled the sports coach, they can never ‘do’ the performing on behalf of their client and the sports person is always ultimately responsible for performing on the day. In the same way a career coach can never make career decisions for you but instead will focus on you making your own clear confident decisions.

So what can you expect of your coach? What happens in coaching sessions?
• Your coach will invite you to ask a lot of searching questions of yourself to help you become more aware of your values, beliefs, weaknesses & skills
• There will be lots of work on setting very clear goals and identifying what kind of performance is needed to achieve them
• Depending on the answers you’re looking for, you may or may not complete a number of psychometric instruments
• There are many techniques & tools we use such as NLP & symbolic modelling to mention just two
• Your coach will challenge & stimulate your thinking
• Your coach will support and encourage you
